Adult ≥12 yr 250 mg bd for 7-14 days, may be increased to 500 mg bd in severe infections. Childn 7.5 mg/kg bd for 5-10 days. Treatment & prophylaxis of disseminated infection due toMycobacterium aviumcomplex 500 mg bd w/ other antimycobacterials. H pylorieradication associated w/ PUD 500 mg bd for 7-14 days w/ other antibacterials & PPIs or H2-receptor antagonist.
Hypersensitivity to clarithromycin, erythromycin or other macrolides. Concomitant use w/ terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide; ergot alkaloids; domperidone.
Discontinue use if severe acute hypersensitivity reactions occur. Not to be used in patients w/ history of acute porphyria. Overgrowth of nonsusceptible bacteria; superinfection. Not recommended in concomitant use w/ ranitidine, bismuth citrate in patients w/ CrCl <25 mL/min. Severe renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
